Even before I got pregnant, I thought about how I was going to tell my husband. After months of negative pregnancy tests, I finally got a positive one and the first thing on my mind was how to tell my husband! About a week before I got the positive test, I was doing laundry and accidentally shrunk one of my husbands favorite shirts (I know I know, usually it’s the husband who shrinks the wife’s clothes!). It was a gaming shirt that I didn’t really understand anyway, but he is a bit of a nerd so he was really sad about it. So the next week when I found out I was pregnant, I was researching pregnancy announcement shirts and found this one…
I thought it would be perfect to give him since it was kind of a “replacement” shirt to the one I shrunk (even though I knew he would never actually wear it in public). So I ordered the shirt but it wasn’t going to arrive for another 5-7 days. My husband loves surprises and I wanted him to really be shocked when I gave him the shirt, so I had to do a little scheming. I told him I had taken a pregnancy test and it was negative. Throughout the next few days I placed feminine products around the bathroom so he would have no suspicions. I felt really bad lying, but I knew that it would make the surprise that much more unexpected.
The shirt finally arrived later that week and when he got home from work that day I told him I felt really bad about shrinking his gaming shirt, so I bought him a new one, and handed him a gift bag. He opened the shirt and looked at me, then back at the shirt, then back at me. All he said was “wait…….”. I could tell he was so confused so I just burst out “I’m pregnant!”. I think it took him about 10 minutes to process what had actually happened and that fact that I had been hiding it from him for a few days, but he was very excited to say the least. It was such a happy day and one I will always remember!
