If you’re anything like me, once you find out you’re pregnant, it’s almost impossible to take your mind off of it. There are so many different aspects of pregnancy that it could be a full time job spending time on pregnancy websites and forums. But, if you’re anything like me, a good old-fashioned hold-it-in-your-hand book is even better than browsing the web. When I was pregnant with my first child, I went out and bought a bunch of pregnancy books to show me the ropes on body changes, baby growth, healthy eating and exercise, maternity clothes and preparing for baby. I thought I would share with you the best ones I found so that you may begin your reading on all things pregnancy!
What To Expect When You’re Expecting, by Heidi Murkoff and Sharon Mazel – If you haven’t been living under a rock for the past 15 years, you know that this book is a must from the minute you find out you are pregnant. It takes you step by step through your changing body and growing baby for 40 weeks.
The Baby Bump, by Carley Roney – This is an easy read with quick tips and funny quotes that will have you saying, “That is exactly how I feel!” Follow along with your pregnancy month by month and you’ll be reminded of important things that are easy to forget, like updating your will and preparing postpartum frozen meals.
How to Exercise When You’re Expecting, by Lindsay Brin – Staying healthy and fit during pregnancy is so difficult. You are exhausted beyond belief and have strange aches and pains that weren’t there before. I love that Brin’s #1 rule in this book is No Guilt! She makes it easy to exercise affectively even if you only have 20 minutes a day with your little one’s climbing all over you.
And my two favorite silly books that are fun quick reads are:
The Girlfriends Guide to Pregnancy, by Vicki Iovine and Belly Laughs, by Jenny McCarthy – Both these books will have you giggling and thinking to yourself, “Did she really just say that!” If you need a lighthearted book to lighten your adittude during this difficult and stressful time, just pick up one of these books and you’ll feel much better!
