WHY EVERY MOM NEEDS A CHROMEBOOK

Being a mom and having a blog, I am on the computer a lot!  I do a lot of shopping, web browsing, social media, photo editing, and of course blogging (mommystatus.com and raspberryglow.com). But let’s be honest, I would do most of this stuff even if I didn’t have a blog! 🙂 That being said, I cannot begin to tell you how fantastic it has been to own a Chromebook (specifically THIS ONE– on sale right now!).

Here are the reasons I absolutely love it, and some things that maybe aren’t so great as well.

Things I love about my Chromebook:
  • It’s inexpensive: Are you kidding me, a laptop for $169 (on sale right now for $149!)?  The most amazing part about the price is the fact that I don’t have to worry about it breaking.  I can throw it in the car, eat while using it, let my son watch shows on it (or just bang on the keyboard like he likes to do).  If it breaks, I am only out $169 bucks, not $2000 like I would be for my MacBook Pro.
  • Its quiet: Most computers/laptops have a fan inside to keep everything from getting too hot, but the Chromebook doesn’t need one!  This makes the Chromebook completely silent.  I don’t think I have ever heard mine make any noise.  Plus, it never gets hot 🙂 Another bonus is you don’t have to push the buttons on the track pad to get them to work, you can simply tap with your finger instead of pushing and the buttons work.
  • Its Fast: This Chromebook, and I believe all others, only use flash memory only.  This basically means it is fast.  Flash memory is expensive, so the downside to this is that these computers don’t have much storage space.
  • Long battery life: This battery lasts forever!  I think I have read that it should last 10+ hours on one charge, and I can say that seems about right.  I love not having to charge this up everyday!

  • It’s lightweight: I can carry my Chromebook in one hand and my baby in the other 🙂 – which is something I would not feel so comfortable doing with a heavier laptop. If I need to get something done on the computer, I can take it into whatever room my son is in and do my work next to him while he plays with his toys.
Things I don’t love about my Chromebook:
  • It probably can’t be your only computer: The Chromebook is great in so many ways, but it was not designed to do it all.  One thing I can’t do well is manage my photos.  There is not much storage space to work with on these, which makes it hard to load, save and edit a lot of photos.  But you can always use the Chromebook to transfer photos to a flash drive or a SD card.  I also do a lot of photo editing, which can actually be done on a Chromebook or on the web, but I still end up doing some things in Adobe Photoshop on my MacBook Pro.
  • ChromeOS: The operating system on Chromebook is ChromeOS, so most people won’t be familiar.  But basically everything runs out of a Chrome web browser.  There are plenty of apps that you can install to customize your experience, but ChomeOS won’t beat Windows or Mac OSX (for most people).
  • Screen is not amazing: My Chromebook‘s screen isn’t as nice as many of the more expensive laptops.  But it is still great for 95% of what I do.  Some other Chromebooks have really great screens, but they are also more expensive.  And the price of my Chromebook is my favorite thing about it.
Bottom line is, I think most moms could benefit from owning a Chromebook.  I have a MacBook Pro as well, and I actually use my Chromebook a lot more.
The same model I own is on sale right now at Best Buy for $149 HERE, so if you are thinking about getting one, I would not hesitate to order! It also has a 4.5 star rating with over 1,200 customer reviews so that pretty much echo’s everything I am saying as to why you need this Chromebook!
